PROTECT Conference in Brussels on october 18th

Parcours d’Exil and the partners of the PROTECT project have the pleasure to invite you to the Final conference of the project “Early identification of asylum seekers having suffered traumatic experiences” at Hotel Astrid in Brussels on October 18th 2011

The Early identification of asylum seekers having suffered traumatic experiences is a key issue for all the organizations involved in the field of political asylum in Europe.

According to Council Directive 2003/9/EC of 27 January 2003 laying down minimum standards for the reception of asylum seekers, the Member States have to take into account the specific situation of vulnerable persons such as persons who have been subjected to torture, rape or other forms of severe psychological, physical or sexual violence and ensure that they receive the necessary treatment for the damages caused by those acts. Those provisions shall apply only to persons recognized as having special needs, after an individual evaluation of their situation.

Since, July 2010, the team of the PROTECT project has developed a tool and a process of early identification of asylum seekers having suffered traumatic experiences, based on the knowledge and experience of professionals from seven European organization involved in the housing and psychological treatment of refugees. The project has been realized with the support of the European Refugee Fund.

The final presentation of the project will occur in Brussels on October 18th 2011.
